Pulling Apart the Petals- Requierments of the IT Girl By Grace Pham
The girl with just great, stylish clothes is not the IT girl. The girl with just parents that are a bottomless pit of a bank is not the IT girl. The girl with just famous relations is not the IT girl. The IT girl is the one girl that is nothing really particular, but she is the one that believes she is special and is able to make others believe she is special. That is a true power.
There she is: the IT girl, the wonder woman; a gorgeous flower that rises above all else. But when you pull apart all the petals you have left is a stem. For at the root, all she is, all you think she is will just be a single stem, just like you. Then what makes her the IT girl? Why not someone else, someone you think is more deserving- someone like yourself?
The IT girl must realize much in her short experience. She must see that the truth is just a stem. Yet, she must have faith that she is not just a stem. Not seeing is believing. She must pose the question: the truth or the faith? When she is confident enough to believe that she holds velvet petals compared to anothers plain than others also take that faith. Despite this certainty, she must know her place. The IT girl may just be a girl, but is nothing without others supporting her. A flower alone will wilt and die, but the flower that basks under sunlight, dances under the rain, and is the adoration of bees will flourish. An IT girl must understand her place as a leader. Devoid of her supporters, an IT girl will also shrivel up into nothing.
You may believe you now understand the concept of an IT girl and rush outside to try your new knowledge on the world around you- to see if you are an IT girl. For in the end they are nothing but a stem, just like yourself
right? Wrong. She may be a stem but people are different. An IT girl is called an IT girl because there is no other else like her. An IT girl is not born special- she grows. She is that one girl who is destined to be an IT girl; from the little experience she has and what she learns along the journey of an IT girl, she develops. She develops a tough stem. Once she becomes the IT girl, she can never stop. Similar to how when you have the ability to push past everyone else and reach the top, if you do not keep fighting, you will be pushed off. And it will hurt. This is how the IT girl really is different (mind you not special, but unique in the way that everyone is different in their own way; her different just destines her for the top). The IT girl is a 24/7 job. Though it may have not been in the job description, it is a law she is always under. Of course she is only human. No matter how much a flower stands tall, decorates its petals and leaves, or changes its colors, a flower is a flower. Constantly, she must have the clothes, the hair, the attitude, and the essence of royalty (somewhat akin to the face that we call the president- another job I would never want). If the IT girl loses her composer- even for a minute or two- she must collect herself or her kingdom may be under a new queen.
The true IT girl may be rare, but with the trade comes the line of second-rated wannabes. In that group will be someone with not only the desire to be the best, but the faith that she is the best (though her belief may not always be true). She will always be on watch for the moment that her queen falters. When that happens- if that ever happens- she will be ready to seize the throne and take on the enduring, ongoing responsibility of maintaining the crown. But hey, if the second-rated has the ability to seize that crown and keep it then perhaps she is not the second-rated but the true IT girl.
So whether she is the girl you hate, the girl you want so badly to hate, or just the girl by the hands of god, if she is a true IT girl, then cut her some slack.
